Blog News

I had a fun time tonight being part of the "Bloggers' Roundtable" on TBS eFM 101.3's The Evening Show, hosted by Michael Rhee. (eFM is Seoul's only English-language radio programming.) You could listen to it on-line, I'm told, from here: http://tbs.seoul.kr/program/schedule.do?method=schedule&channel_code=CH_E but I can't get it to work so far ...

Anyway, the TBS studio is located near Myeongdong staton (line 4, exit 1); my fellow bloggers: Hannah, a Yonhap news reporter from outside D.C. who runs a social networking site at nanoomi.net; and Adeel, a Canadian who teaches elementary kids, and blogs at adeel.blogspot.com, were already there when I arrived.

Our topics for the roundtable were: 1) the "kimchi crisis", the skyrocketing price of fruit and veg, particularly Chinese (aka Napa) cabbage used to make baechu kimchi, a Korean staple food; 2) the suicide of a Rutgers student whose dormroom liaison with another guy was webcammed and shared on the internet, perhaps causing his suicide; and, 3) photos of North Korean heir apparent Kim Jong-eun, showing him to be a "chubbo".

This is meaty, interesting stuff!

I hope our conversation was perceived as interesting (let me know if you can listen to the archive) but I found it quite good, with all three of us able to make a contribution on every topic. Minus the bumps and the ads, it was about 22 minutes of talk--I had a lot more to say about Captain--now General--Kim, but we ran out of time, as they say.

No payment was involved, but it was a different, and invigorating, way to spend a couple of hours on a Monday night in Seoul! My thanks to Charles at the Ktlit site for suggesting me to the producers!

Well, my pal Charles (see his Korean Lit blog in the blogroll) does some stuff over there, and was asked to make some rekkies for the roundtable.

I'm trying, but no success yet.I put up a link to the website--try poking around to see what you can find, my webwhiz friend!

I never could get the audio site to work for me, even after attempting to register and pay for the clip. At the time (earlier this year) the site had the typical problem and wouldn't foreigner's registration numbers. That might have been fixed by now.

Finally I was able to get a clip from the program's producer in my situation. If you really want it, you might want to try that approach.

Hmmmm.. I have the clip on my computer... when I get home I'll toss it up on my server...

LOL.. Tuttle has a better voice for radio than I do...

If anyone else is interested in doing this show, contact me..
